Terms of Service

EdgeStories is a free, non-commercial research site run by Kaiyu Hsu. These terms apply to anyone reading it or using its interactive pieces; by using the site you agree to them. They are kept short on purpose. Effective September 29, 2026.

Using the site

Read, link, and share freely, and crawl it too — AI crawlers and agents are welcome, and every page is also served as Markdown. The subscribe form is for your own address only. There is nothing to buy and no account to create.

Acceptable use

• No abuse — don't overload the site, get around the per-IP rate limits on interactive pieces, or probe it for vulnerabilities without asking first
• No one else's email — don't subscribe an address that isn't yours
• No re-identification — stories publish private individuals only in aggregate; don't use them to single out, track, or harass a specific person
• Nothing illegal — don't use the site for anything unlawful where you are or in California

Who owns what

The essays, charts, and analysis are Kaiyu Hsu's. Quote them, cite them, and reproduce individual figures with a link back to the story; ask first before republishing a story in full. The underlying data belongs to its sources — the public archives named in each story — and stays under their own terms and licenses. Emails you send remain yours; one sent as a correction or reply may be quoted in the story it concerns.

Accuracy and no warranty

Stories are research, not advice. Every number is measured from the data and the methods are published, but analysis can be wrong; errors are corrected in the story with a dated note. The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Kaiyu Hsu is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or reliance on anything published on it. The site is free, so total liability for any claim is limited to zero dollars where the law permits, and otherwise to the smallest amount it does.

Changes

These terms may change as the site does. The current version always lives on this page with its effective date; continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
